Church to open food bank
The St. James AME Church, (Ariel Crossroad) located at 5333 South Hwy 41 Marion, Food Bank will be open to the public every third Thursday in the month. Consumers are required to fill out an application at the initial visit. Food stamp, FI recipients, and income eligible families and individuals automatically qualify. Please contact Rev. Coalition holds Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training
The Pee Dee Coalition holds Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training sessions on various dates throughout the year for women. Formed by Larry Nadeau in 1989, RAD can be two to three days of teaching practical defense mechanisms using basic self-defense techniques. The courses also teach women prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance. The courses are designed for the average person. Pre-registration is required. If attending RAD training, you must attend all sessions. Females under the age of 18 are required to obtain permission from a parent or guardian to participate. Basic training sessions are nine hours, while advanced trainings are 13 hours. For more information or to find out when the next RAD training session is nearest you, call (843) 395-2748. Trainings are offered at no charge to women and teenage girls in the region but sponsors are needed to help keep this valuable service available. Marion Fox Watch monthly meeting is every third Monday at 6:30 pm at headquarters on the corner of Main and Harlee St. in Marion.

Pleasant Grove Missionary Church to hold Ushers’ Anniversary
The Usher’s Ministry of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Church cordially invites the public to their 74th Ushers’ Anniversary on June 6 at 4 p.m. The guest messenger will be the Rev. Willie L. Gillard, Pastor of Everbee Baptist Church, Mullins accompanied by his choir and church family.

Church invites public to services
The members of Centerville Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. William N. Pee is pastor, invite the public to their weekly services. Prayer and bible study is each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.; Sunday school is at 10 a.m. followed by worship service at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The church is located at 5211 Pennell Road in Centenary.

Church to hold annual hat parade
St. James A.M.E. Church, Marion with the Rev. Georgeann T. Pringle as Pastor, invites the public to their First Annual Grandmothers March and Hat Parade on June 13 at 4 p.m.
Grandmothers are asked to wear formal attire or suits and the finest hat for the parade.
The event is sponsored by Marie F. Leonard of the Women’s Missionary Society.

Pleasant Grove Baptist to hold vacation bible school
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marion along with Pastor A.C. Robinson and Deacon McLendon Moody invites the public the vacation bible school starting June 7–11 from 6 p.m.–8:30 p.m. There will be classes for all children and adults.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to hold arthritis exercise classes
Classes will be held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.– 1 a.m. at the ACR Family Resource Center, Marion. The public is invited. For more information call the church secretary at (843) 423-6018.

Marion Church of God to hold “Kidz Krusade”
The public is invited to the Marion Church of God, 1401 North Main Street, Marion for Ultimate Kidz Krusade F-O-R-D Racing Kids Crusade event presented by Chuck McDonald on June 6 – 10 kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the program will be from 7 p.m. until 8:15 p.m.

St. James Learning Center to hold Summer camp program

Marion County AARP to hold annual picnic
The Marion County AARP will hold its annual picnic on June 3 at 4:30 p.m.
It will be held at Darcey Park which is located across from the National Guard Armory in Marion.
All those attending are asked to bring covered dishes.

Church to hold vacation bible school
The Mullins-Marion Free Will Baptist Church invites the public to Vacation Bible School on June 21 through June 25 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Supper is being served each night. The church website is www.mmfwb.org.

Church to celebrate homecoming and anniversary
Christian Faith Baptist Church located along US 76 between Mullins and Marion will be celebrating its annual homecoming and also it’s 25th anniversary on Sunday, June 6. The day will begin with regular Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m. followed by a covered dish dinner. All present and former members are urged attend, as well as any visitors who would like to join in the celebration. The event will be the anniversary for Rev. Glenn Ailshie, who has served at the church since its beginning in 1985.

Church to hold gospel singing event
Rains Freewill Baptist Church will have a gospel singing event, featuring the Southern Gospel Quartet “Fourgiven” on Saturday night the June 5 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Rains FWB Church is located in the Rains community of Marion. The Rev. Richard Huggins is the pastor.

Woman to Woman to hold annual conference
South Carolina Woman to Woman Conference is having its 11th annual conference on June 9 – June11 at 7 p.m. Host church for the conference is New Life Holiness Church in Rains with Pastor Tina Patrice-Williams.
Speakers for the conference are: Pastor Tina Patrice-Williams, Veronica Graham and Rev. Marvin Hemingway.

Church to celebrate anniversary
Grace Community Church of Marion will celebrate their fourth anniversary with a
"Celebration Sunday" on June 6. The popular gospel group, "4Given" will be in concert during the morning worship service. Everyone is invited to attend.

Church invites public to services
The public is invited to the services at Miracle Deliverance Word Ministries, Eloise Grice Recreation Center 603 Gurley St., Marion from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The speaker will be the Pastor Ronnie McRae and Apostle Brunson Davis as overseer.

Benefit gospel concert, car and truck show coming to Marion
A benefit gospel concert for Allen Harness will be held on June 6 from 12 noon to 9 p.m. at the C.D. Joyner Auditorium on 107 Main Street Marion. The event will also feature a car and bike show from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Registration starts at 11 a.m. Several gospel singers and praise dance teams will perform. Harness served on the Marion Fire Department and Rescue Squad for over 25 years. He played Santa Claus during the Christmas season’s annual parade for several years until having to deal with an undisclosed illness. The event is in support of Harness and his family.
