Ernest Jackson “Jack” Rimer
Marion and Garden City – Ernest Jackson “Jack” Rimer, 82, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in Hospice of Charleston after an illness.
A funeral was at 2:30 p.m. May 29 at Marion Baptist Church. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
Mr. Rimer was born in Salisbury, N.C., a son of the late Ernest James and Esther Rimer. He is also predeceased by a sister, Helen Hillard. Mr. Rimer was a graduate of Boyden High School in Salisbury. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from Dupont, and was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alta A. Rimer of the home, sons, Steve Rimer and wife, Diane of Mullins, Joe Rimer and his wife, Tara of Coward, daughter, Jean Richardson and her husband, Hank of Marion, brothers, Bill Rimer of Florence, and Karl Rimer of Burbank, Ca., grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Garden City Chapel, 316 North Dogwood Drive, Garden City, S.C. 29576 or to the Marion Baptist Church, 106 South Main Street, Marion, 29571.

Martin C. Barringer Jr.
Mullins – Martin C. Barringer Jr., 88, of Mullins passed away on May 20, 2009. Born in Mt. Pleasant, N.C., he was the son of the late Martin C. Barringer, Sr. and Esther Hahn Barringer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Heita Caldwell Barringer.
A graduate of the University of N.C. at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Banking and Commerce, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After moving to Mullins in 1947, he established Barrringer’s Jewelers, where he remained active until his retirement. He also opened Gri-Barr’s Men’s Store of Mullin in 1956.
He served as a Director of Davis National Bank from 1966 to 1990, diligently serving as Chairman of the Board from 1978 to 1990. He was also a former member of the Mullins Cotillion Club, and a Master Mason of the Damacus Lodge. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend.
Surviviors include his son, Martin C. BarringerIII (Mary Jane) of Little Rock Arkansas, his daughter, Nancy Barringer Williams of Mullins, four grandchildren, Ray (Sallie) and Laura Williams, Kelley (Josh) Krablin and Kimberly Barringer, and one great-grandchild Kaylee Grace Krablin.
Services were at 11 a.m. on May 23, 2009 at Macedonia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kem Thomas officiating, Burial followed at Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins. Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund at Macedonia Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street Mullins, 29574.

Erna Wieters Sloan
Marion – Erna Wieters Sloan, 86, of Marion, S.C., wife of the late Cyrus T. Sloan Jr. and daughter of the late Dr. John C. and Lucille Davis Wieters of Charleston, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness.
Born in Charleston, S.C, she moved to Marion after her marriage in 1946. Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker. She taught Sunday School for a number of years, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and supported her children in their various activities. She was a founding member of the Acacia Garden Club and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent.
Mrs. Sloan is survived by her three children, Cyrus T. Sloan, III (Betty) of Marion, Randall D. Sloan of Pawley’s Island, and Cynthia Lucille Sloan of Marion, two grandchildren, Anne Conley Sloan of Davidson, N.C., and Sarah S. Jowers (Austin) of Atlanta, Ga., one great-grandchild, Claire Conley Jowers of Atlanta, Ga., and a brother, Charles Wieters of Brevard, N.C. Her Brother John Wieters, preceded her in death.
Graveside services were at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion on May 23, 2009 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Archer officiating and directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
The family asked for the memorials to be made to the Church of the Advent, P.O. Box 888, Marion, S.C. 29571 or to McLeod Hospice, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, S.C. 29502-0551.

Jerry Randal Lewis Sr
Bennettsville – Services for Jerry Randal Lewis Sr. were at 6 p.m. May 28, 2009 in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Lewis, 57, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in Dundee Nursing Home in Bennettsville. Born in Bennettsville, March 12, 1952 he was the son of the late William Birch Lewis and Ola Mae Taylor Lewis. He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his sons, Jerry R. (Rhonda) Lewis, Jr. of Dillon and Kevin Lashon (Brandy) Lewis of Marion, grandchildren, Hunter Lee Lewis, William Bradley Lewis, and Joanna E. Batton, brother, William C. Lewis of Bennettsville, sister, Nadine Lee of Bennettsville.
