Horry County Police conducted an ocean search for a missing 13-year-old Maryland boy Thursday morning.
According to Sgt. Robert Kegler, a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources airplane spotted something in the ocean water around 11:15 a.m. between Ocean lake Campground and Lakewood Campground.
Kegler said officers responded to the scene with jet skis to assist in the search, but later determined that the object seen from the DNR airplane was a school of fish.
So far, they have not found the teen.
In the last week, Horry County officers have received calls in connection to possible sightings of Hill.
Some of the calls have led officers to sea turtles, a crab pot, and a shark.
“Everybody I've talked to believes in their heart that we will recover this young gentleman and certainly we haven't given up hope and we're just taking a little longer than we expected but we still believe we will recover this gentleman,” said Lt. Darris Fowler.
The teen was last seen swimming in an area where Garden City and Surfside Beach meet on July 23rd.
Witnesses say as soon as they saw him in trouble, several life guards rushed into the water.
A group of volunteers also searched for the teenager.
