LAKE CITYLake City police are investigating a break-in during which someone stole cash from a store’s safe, Lake City Police Chief Billy Brown said.

The manager of Maxway, at 210 W. Main St., called police after arriving to open the store one morning to discover someone had knocked out part of the business’ front glass as well as a glass door inside the building’s entrance hallway, Brown said.

The person also broke into the front door of the store’s office and stole cash from the safe before leaving, apparently through the back door, the chief said.

Police responded the morning after the incident, which they think happened around 1 a.m. July 19, Brown said. They also are working to determine whether the person also stole some flat-screen televisions during the break-in, he said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Lake City Police Department at (843) 374-5411 or (843) 374-5412 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.
