GARDEN CITY - A group of adults managed to pull three children from the rough surf near the Garden City Pier Friday afternoon.
Duke Brown with Beach patrol says some of the adults and children suffered minor scratches during the rescue. Most were treated on the scene, but some were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Officials blame rip currents for at least one drowning so far this week along the Grand Strand.
A man died while fishing on the south end of Pawleys Island Thursday afternoon. Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson says the 35-year-old was fishing when his son started having trouble in the water. The man manged to save his son, but apparently drowned in the effort.
A 13-year-old boy was still missing Friday after apparently disappearing while swimming off Garden City Thursday afternoon.
There is a moderate threat for rip tides throughout the weekend.
Lifeguards are urging swimmers to use extreme caution.
