MYRTLE BEACH - It will be a trip back in time along the Grand Strand this weekend as the Fabulous Fifties Festival rocks around the clock.
According to a news release, the festival kicked off Friday morning with a golf tournament at Wachesaw Plantation East, Murrells Inlet, with an Elvis Presley impersonator and other 50's characters helping cut a ribbon to start the torunament. Numerous prizes will be awarded including $200 to the winning team.
The event goes upbeat Friday night with the Fabulous 50's Sock Hop at Studebaker’s, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event will include music, dancing, hula hoop and bubble gum blowing contests, 50's impersonators, a visit from Elvis, food, a cash bar, live auction and more. Tickets are $25 per adult and includes one-year membership to the Horry County Arts and Cultural Council. A limited number of tickets are available either at the door or in advance at Legends In Concert, Little River Chamber of Commerce and Southern Portraits & Accents.
On Saturday, the Classic Car Cruise-in and Show, from 3-7 p.m. will feature 60 classic cars. The crusie-in begins at Legends In Concert in Surfside Beach and moves to Chick-fil-A Murrells Inlet for display. The event features 50's music, contests and prizes and is sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Car Club, Legends In Concert and Chick-fil-A Murrells Inlet. Free.
Saturday night, Legends In Concert presents the South Carolina Semi-Finals, Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, Surfside Beach, beginning at 8 p.m. The winner will receive $1,000 cash prize and qualify for the title of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year competition next month in Memphis.
