Two girls were taken under the water while swimming in the ocean Wednesday evening.
Myrtle Beach police say it happened a little after 5 pm in the water near 17th Avenue North.
Emergency workers were able to rescue both girls, ages 11 and 13. The 13-year-old was treated at an area hospital. The 11-year-old was life-flighted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Police say the girls were visiting the beach with their family from Hillsborough, N.C.
The 13-year-old is reportedly recovering well. No word on the 11-year-old's condition at this time.
