Man died of probable drowning in Pawleys Island

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A man died while fishing on the south end of Pawleys Island Thursday afternoon.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson says the 35-year-old was fishing when his son started having trouble in the water.

Johnson says the man went in the ocean to help the son, but never came back up. His son survived the incident. Because an autopsy has not been performed, the exact cause of death is not confirmed. But the coroner's office is treating this as a drowning.

This happened around 3 p.m. The man's identity has not been released at this time.

Further up the Grand Strand, a massive search effort took up most of the day Thursday for another potential drowning in Garden City. Rescue crews looked for a 13-year-old boy from Maryland who went under water around 12:30 p.m., and never resurfaced.
