An Orlando, Fla., man is in custody in Effingham after police found him in a motel room with an underage teen whom he met over the Internet, Lake City Police Chief Billy Brown said.
Anthony Tirado, 27, of 13841 Earpod Drive was arrested July 13 and is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.
The suspect was arrested in connection with a July 12 incident at a Lake City motel, the chief said.
Police arrived at the motel about 11:50 a.m. after someone reported that the suspect was inside the room with an underage teen. Police arrived on the scene and found a child under the age of 16 in the room with the suspect, Brown said.
It is believed the suspect met the child over the Internet, so investigators confiscated his computer and are processing it for evidence, Brown said.
Florence County sheriff’s deputies are aiding in the investigation and more charges are possible, he said.
Tirado remains jailed on a $80,000 surety bond.
