FLORENCE -- The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet driving south on Interstate 95 died early Saturday morning when his car collided with a tractor-trailer stopped in traffic on the interstate.

Florence County Coroner M.G. "Bubba" Matthews identified the victim as Donald Joseph Myers, 58, of Hagerstown, Maryland.

According to a South Carolina Highway Patrol official, the Chevrolet driver was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred at 3:13 a.m. at the 173 MM on the Pee Dee River Bridge.

Matthews said Myers was traveling to Florida and he may have fallen asleep at the wheel as there were no signs that he tried to stop to avoid the truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, from Reynolds, Ga., was not injured.
