A local assistant principal faces charges of public drunk and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, Florence County booking reports show.

Anthony Ross of 1163 Anderson Bridge Road in Scranton was booked about 4 a.m. Friday morning and released on bond just before 11 a.m.

Ross has served as assistant principal at Scranton Elementary School. He was selected to become one of two assistant principals at Lake City Elementary School this fall.

His employment status with the district is unclear. Florence School District 3 Communications Coordinator Brian Huckabee said district policy doesn’t allow him to discuss personnel issues.

Ross was arrested after Florence County sheriff’s deputies stopped about 10 p.m. Thursday to investigate a disabled vehicle on U.S. 52 North just south of Scranton, according to Florence County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Nunn.

During the investigation, Ross arrived at the scene as a passenger in another vehicle. A deputy noticed the odor of alcohol on Ross while an open container was "in plain view" in the disabled vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
