A new principal has been named at Plainview Elementary School in Chesterfield County School District.
Kim Gaskins, director of the Palmetto Learning Center, has been named the school’s new leader.
Members of Chesterfield County School District Board of Education approved her appointment as principal during a regular meeting Monday.
Gaskins succeeds Dennis McDaniel who was has named the principal of McBee High School.
Gaskins has been with the district for 19 years, four of which as the director of the Palmetto Learning Center.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work with the faculty, staff, parents, and community at Plainview Elementary,” Gaskins said in a press release issued by the school district. “The leadership experiences and knowledge I gained while at (Palmetto Learning Center) will be very beneficial in continuing the success of Plainview Elementary.”
Superintendent Dr. John Williams said in the release that he is confident that Gaskins will continue with the level of excellence already seen at Plainview.
“She’s done a great job at Palmetto Learning Center during her tenure there,” Williams said in the release. “I believe her to be a great fit for Plainview and I know she’ll do a great job there as well.”
During Monday’s meeting, the board also received an update on a $6 million project plan.
Ken Buck, the district’s public information officer, said in a telephone interview that plan doesn’t include any major construction projects, and could include something as little as replacing air conditioners or upgrading playground equipment.
