Accident on Highway 17 near the backgate tied up traffic for several hours on Wednesday.
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 17 and the entrance to the Azalea Lakes subdivision in Myrtle Beach.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said the driver of a northbound truck was turning left into Azalea Lakes and hit a southbound Ford Mustang. The driver of the pickup walked away unharmed. The driver of the Mustang was taken to the hospital, but is expected to recover. The passenger in the truck was cut out of the vehicle, taken to the hospital, and later life flighted to New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington. No word right now on her condition.
The driver of the pickup truck is charged with failure to yield the right of way.
