Firefighters spent much of the early morning hours on Monday fighting a fire in Garden City, and now police have one person in custody, charged with setting that fire.

Police charged Gavin Gregory Wells, 21, of Hyden, Kentucky with 2nd Degree Arson after police said he set a car on fire outside the Pendergrass Realty and Coldwell Banker building located on 212 Atlantic Ave.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., an officer with the Horry County Police Department saw flames coming from the building and observed Wells running from the scene.

Police said Wells had singed hair on his arm and head.

Several witnesses on scene pointed the suspect out as starting a vehicle on fire near the building, which subsequently set the building on fire.

Police said Wells had been vacationing in the area.
