MYRTLE BEACH – Conservatives from across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand gathered at Market Commons Saturday evening for the Myrtle Beach Tea Party – Next Steps.

Speakers slated for the event included Nancy Morgan, John Hawkins, Christina Jeffrey and others, according to a release issued by the organization.

A few hundred people from across South Carolina came out for the event.

While there was no tea thrown the way there was during the original Boston tea party in 1773, the word tea was used as an acronym for "taxed enough already."

“The better way is the fair tax. The fair tax is essentially a national retail sales tax, which allows you to keep your entire pay check. There's no withholding for Medicare or Medicaid or social security and we also have a rebate to pay your taxes at the poverty level so essential what happens is no American citizen at or below the poverty level will pay no taxes whatsoever," said Mickey Lattimore, regional director of scfairtax.org.
