Person of interest questioned in Marion County drive-by shooting

Deputies are questioning a person of interest after a 20-year-old man was injured in a drive-by shooting Wednesday, according to a press release issued Thursday by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. near U.S. 501 and Quail Road when someone in a green sport-utility vehicle fired five rounds. One of those rounds struck the victim in the lower jaw as he was sitting in his vehicle, according to the release.

Deputies later seized a vehicle matching the description of the one thought to be involved in the shooting and are questioning a person of interest.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 423-8216 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.
