Needs can be met locally for the chronically diseased and terminal ill
Dear Editor,
Just a few short months ago, I was diagnosed with a terminal illness at that point it was too late for metical treatment to be a key factor. As a family, the decision was made not to pursue curative treatment. Plagued with health problems over the last few years, I feel that I received quality care from my family doctor. However, upon my terminally ill diagnosis, I very much wanted to explore my options and decide if I could remain in our home where my family and I could best support each other.
Thus, my family and I made the decision to call Dr. Kenneth Orbeck at Shepherd Care Hospice. We were seeking information needed to make the appropriate decision on how to spend my final quality days. After speaking with Dr. Orbeck and the staff of Shepherd Care Hospice, a care plan was developed that was specific to my needs. The plan was put into place, and we have been progressing from that point.
Shepherd Care Hospice has a Christian atmosphere where there is a blend of family values and medical strides. Most importantly to me and my family, patients are not only ministered to physically and medically, but also spiritually. The entire staff has been more that receptive to my needs. They also share my family’s Christian values. They are available when I need anything and are an organization based on service and quality. This organization, started by Dr. Orbeck, allows patients who are homebound, such as I am, to be visited in our own homes by a board certified physician. Dr. Orbeck identified a void in the care if the elderly who suffer from chronic diseases and / or terminal illnesses.
Shepherd Care Hospice was designed to take medical care into a patient’s home to eliminate the problems of accessibility and availability. My family and friends are most important to me; the staff of Shepherd Care Hospice has greatly assisted in affording me the blessing and opportunity to enjoy each day here in our home. To anyone that has been diagnosed with a medical condition that is beyond control, I thoroughly, recommend Shepherd Care Hospice.
