A Hartsville man was arrested Wednesday after deputies found more $3,500 in crack cocaine in his house, Darlington County Sheriff’s Capt. Andy Locklair said.
James Anthony Barrett, 38, of 1619 Patrick Highway, is charged with trafficking in crack cocaine, Darlington County Detention Center booking reports show.
Deputies went to the suspect’s home to serve a warrant issued for stolen property when they discovered about 35 grams of packaged crack cocaine in plain view, Locklair said. They also found $250 in marijuana and a shotgun in the home.
Because deputies discovered the weapon, the suspect may face federal charges because he is a convicted felon, Locklair said.
Barrett remains in custody at the jail in Darlington awaiting a bond hearing.
