A Florence man working at a high school football stadium died Tuesday after being electrocuted, then falling some 100 feet from his work platform to the ground, Bennettsville Police Sgt. Larry Turner said.

John Christopher Touchberry, 36, of Touchberry Crane Service was found dead at McAlpine Stadium at about noon, according to a press release issued by the Marlboro County School District.

Touchberry was changing lightbulbs and a transformer at Marlboro County High School’s McAlpine Stadium when he was apparently electrocuted.

Police said his body was on the lighting tower platform for a time before falling some 10 stories to the ground.

It is still unclear if Touchberry died as a result of being electrocuted or if the the impact of the fall caused his death, Turner said.

The body was sent for an autopsy, which will determine the cause of death.
