A July Fourth tradition was renewed in Garden City.

After a year hiatus, the Garden City Fourth of July golf cart parade resumed in memory of Carol Mayes

Atchie wren put the event back together in memory of her friend Mayes, who had been organizing the parade.

Mayes died on May 27th, 2009.

Wren says 182 golf carts rode a half mile down to the beach in the parade to celebrate Independence Day and to remember Mayes.

“It’s been going on for 28 years and last year they didn't have it, but we wanted to continue it this year in memory of Carol,” Wren said.

Many of the people who came out to the parade also donated money to the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Departments.

Wren says they're hoping to raise one thousand dollars
