SCRANTON — Mr. Stanton Y. Gause, Sr., 70, died peacefully Monday, June 29, 2009, at his residence, with his children by his side, after losing his courageous battle against cancer.
Mr. Gause was born Dec. 7, 1938, in Scranton, a son of the late John Flemming “Bub” Gause and Tula Collins Gause. He served in the US Army and was employed with Vulcraft Steel for over 30 years before retiring. Stanton was a lifelong farmer and an avid craftsman. Upon his retirement he owned and operated The Barnhouse Restaurant in Lake City. He operated the restaurant for 15 years until his illness, but nothing made him happier than maintaining the family farm in which he was born and spent all of his life.
Survivors are his children: Daughter, Cindy Gause Hatfield (Ronnie) of Florence; sons, Stanton Gause, Jr. (Lisa) of Lake City, and Dan Gause, of Scranton; granddaughters, Heather and Holly Hatfield of Florence; grandsons, Stanton Gause III and Chandler Gause of Lake City, Daniel Peyton Gause of Florence; and step-grandchildren, Derek Hatfield and Alexis Hatfield both of Florence. Also, surviving are his beloved sisters, Bleecker Godwin of Scranton and Jewell Hoefer of Columbia; brothers, Ryan Gause of Destin, FL., Collins Gause of Summerville, Guy Gause of DuPo, IL. and John F. “Junior” Gause of Santa Rosa, CA. Stanton was predeceased by a brother, Vincent Gause, and sisters, Avis Wallace and Claire Gennaro.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 2 in Carolina Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry McAlister officiating. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park.
