STUCKEY – Community Organization Service Shalom (COSS) is offering free classes to help seniors upgrade their skills into the modern era.

“It’s all about helping our community to grow, because there are a lot of seniors who don’t know how to use a computer,” said president Brunson Cooper. “Computers are the future and you need to know how to use them. We are here to help people. If we don’t help people to grow along with the times, we will fall behind.”

“You can do a lot of things at home. You can order things; you can do your bank account. I am so glad that I have a daughter who is in the field and is willing to donate her time to help people.”

Lettia Cooper is the instructional technology coach for the Beaufort School District. She was a history teacher for six years. “I always loved technology and I went back to school about three years ago to get my Masters in Technology. I wanted to teach technology to teachers and found an opening in Beaufort, by the grace of God. I help the teachers integrate their teaching with Internet, how to make a web page, how to show videos, how to make a web site, and generally get Twenty-first Century skills.”

“I still love history and most of my lessons are centered around it. Everything that goes on in the world is history. I try to explain to people that, whatever they do, history is the basis of it all. But technology is my heart right now.”

Cooper was a high school correspondent for The Weekly Observer for two years during her term at HHS. “Thanks to my parents for keeping me involved. My parents, grandparents, and aunts are educators. They gave me my foundation.”
