The newly elected Mayor of Atlantic Beach has been arrested -- again.
Wednesday afternoon, Retha Pierce, was arrested by Atlantic Beach Police and charged with disorderly conduct and trespass.
Pierce was booked into the J Rueben Long Detention Center and after appearing before a judge and was released on her own personal recognizance.
Pierce's spokesman, Mustafa Abdullah, said the arrest is the result of an incident that happened a couple of days ago when pierce went to town hall to move into an office he says she was promised.
When she got there, boxes were in the office and an argument ensued.
Wednesday, Chief Randy Rizzo told News13 in a phone interview that Pierce came back to town hall and got into another argument with the town manager.
Rizzo said Pierce used abusive language, was loud, was screaming profanities, and the town manager asked her to leave.
Rizzo said he begged, pleaded with Pierce to leave so he wouldn't have to arrest her, but said she would not comply.
Pierce would not speak with the News13 news crew that was at the detention center and shielded her face from the cameras, covering up with a sheet, but her spokesman said she did nothing wrong.
"She didn't break the law, they broke the law, the other city council who continue to get in her way of progress as well as the city manager as well as the interim chief, they broke the law and hopefully she will push that and prosecute them from impeding progress of Atlantic Beach.” Abdullah said.
Abdullah told News13 Pierce is due back in court on the trespassing and disorderly conduct charges, March 10.
But before that, Perce has another court date Thursday for a trial involving resisting arrest charges that stem from a traffic stop in December of 2007.
News13 will have a crew in the courtroom and we will keep you covered on what happens.
