Man accused of attacking woman with brick

A Hartsville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a beating that occurred in the city Sunday, Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp said.

Oscar Tyrone Dolford, 38, of 236 Swift Creek Road, Apt. C2, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, Darlington County Detention Center booking reports show.

“According to the police report the victim in this case was riding on a bicycle and the suspect was riding behind her — apparently they had been arguing. He struck the back of the bicycle, causing her to fall off,” Kemp said.

Once she was off the bicycle, the suspect threatened her and began choking her, Kemp said.

“Then he struck her several time about the head with a brick,” he said. “She blacked out and EMS and police officers arrived and she was taken to the hospital.”

Kemp said a warrant was served on the suspect that day, but it was a routine traffic stop led to his arrest.

Dolford remains in custody at the jail in Darlington on a $7,500 cash or surety bond.
