Clyde Richardson
Britton's Neck - Mr. Clyde O'Neal Richardson, 56, died on Monday, 12 January 2009 at Carolinas Hospital System at Florence. His parents were Fannie and the late Earl Richardson. At an early age, he joined Bethel AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Saturday, 17 January 2009, with the Rev. R.L. Brown, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Old Neck Cemetery.
He graduated from the public schools of Britton's Neck, and served for many years in the Army National Guard. He was employed by Marvel Lighting and Wellman Industries for many years. He was married to Voncennia Lawrence for 22 years, and was the father of Derain, Brandon, and Samathia Richardson, and Stephanie Frasier, all of Gresham. He is also survived by his sisters Celestine Rogers and Mary Earl Richardson both of Britton's Neck, and Vilender Marion of Marion.
David Woodberry
Britton's Neck - Father David Woodberry was born 25 September 1920 in Marion County to the late Henry and Dora Woodberry. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged with decorations and citations. He was employed by Norfolk Railroad System, DuPont, Russell Stover Candies, Marion County Council on Aging, and Wellman Industries, where he retired after many years of service.
In 1941, he married Marcenia Woodberry, and they were the parents of Blanche Tennie and Judy Gause both of Britton's Neck, Gilbert Woodberry of Florence, and Grover Woodberry of Marion. He joined Bethel AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Thursday, 8 January 2009, with the Rev. R.L. Brown, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Beach Field Cemetery. While a member of Bethel, Father Woodberry was a Sunday School Superintendent for forty years, trustee, senior choir member, founder of the lay organization, and usher.
He was the Former Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #336, member of the People's Benevolent Society #53, and Hettie's Chapter #314 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is also survived by his brother Howard Woodberry, and his sister Lydia Woodberry of Britton's Neck.
Dennis Lynn Prosser
Marion: Dennis Lynn Prosser, 54, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 P.m. on Thursday, January 22, at the Church of The Advent in Marion. Burial followed at 3:30 P.M. at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family received friends Wednesday, January 21, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Richardson Funeral Home.
Mr. Prosser was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Henry Eldridge Prosser and Sara Jane Driggers Prosser. He is also predeceased by a brother, Bryce Prosser. Dennis worked as General Manager for F.T. Zeman Electric and Refrigeration. He was a member of the Marion Church of the Advent where he served as Junior Warden and a member of the Mission Committee. He was a graduate of Lake City High School.
Surviving are his wife, Paulena Wiehrs Prosser of the home; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Prosser, also of the home; and brother, Carroll E. Prosser and his wife Lynn of Surfside Beach. Hezekiah Davis
Britton's Neck - Father Hezekiah Davis was born in Britton's Neck on 21 July 1923 to the late Johnny Graves, and Sarah Davis. He was the husband of the former Carrie B. Willis, and the father of Claudia Harris of Oak Park, IL, and the late George and Willimena Davis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy for two years.
In the early 1950's, he and his family moved to Chicago, IL, and he worked at Inland Steel for many years. He ended his career with the public school system of Oak Park, Ill. He was a member of Emmanuel Temple AME Church, and later St. Paul AME Church, both at Chicago.
He returned to Britton's Neck in 1987 and joined Bethel AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson and McGill on Tuesday, 6 January 2009. The Rev. R.L. Brown, pastor, officiated, and burial was at Old Neck Cemetery. He is also survived by his sister Creola Dozier-Ceasar of Britton's Neck.
Horace L. Ransome
Aynor: Horace Leamon Ransome, 78, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence after an illness. He was born August 11, 1930 in Horry County, a son of the late Cliff and Betty Jean Housand Ransome. Mr. Ransome was a retired construction worker.
Surviving Mr. Ransome is his longtime companion, Effie Richardson of the home; and a brother, Carl Ransome of Pablo, Colorado. Graveside services followed at 3:00 P.M. at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Joseph Johnson
Bronx, NY - Mr. Joseph Nelson Johnson, 25, died on 30 December 2008 at Montefiore Hospital at Bronx, N.Y. His parents were the late Yvonne Willette Johnson and Joseph Nelson. He was a native of Marion, and moved to New York to be reared by his grandmother, the late Yvonne Olivia Johnson. He was educated in the schools of New York City.
A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill at Bethel United Methodist Church at Marion on Saturday, 10 January 2009, with the Rev. Shawn V. Bell, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery at Marion.
He is survived by his sister Monique Johnson of Baltimore, MD, and his brothers Joseph Wall of Marion, and Sgt. Travis Wall of Savannah.
Mary Alice Rogers
Britton's Neck – Mrs. Mary Alice Rogers, 69, died on Saturday, 3 January 2009 at Carolinas Hospital System at Florence. Her parents were the late Archie and Ruth Rogers. She was married to John Rogers, Jr. for 48 years, and they were the parents of Cynthia Rogers of Britton's Neck, Janice Maria Rogers and Sandra Lavell Rogers of the home, and Debra Emmanuel of Marion.
She graduated from the public schools of Marion County, and lived for 12 years in Brooklyn, NY. She moved back to Britton's Neck, and was employed by Russell Stover Candies for 24 years. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Wednesday, 7 January 2009, with the Rev. R.L. Brown, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Old Neck Cemetery.
She was also survived by her sisters and brothers: Janie Davis of Britton's Neck; Linda Wright, Jerline Robinson, Ronald and Bernard Rogers, all of Wilmington, NC; Lula Mae Hickson, Betty, Robert, Heyward, and Charlie Davis, all of Florence; Fannie Mallette of Marion, and Johnny Davis of Loris.
Martha Gold C. Dozier
Mullins: Mrs. Martha Gold Collins Dozier, 89, widow of Edgar Preston Tarver Dozier, Sr., died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Conway Manor in Conway after an illness.
She was born October 27, 1919 in Mullins, a daughter of the late Neil Carmichael Collins and the late Ruth Smith Collins. Mrs. Dozier was member of the Mullins First Baptist Church, where she was Sunday School pianist for the Adult Department Number 4 for 66 years. She was active in the Missionary Society, having served in all phases through the years. She was a charter member of the Tussie Mussie Garden Club and a charter member of the Choral Club. Mrs. Dozier was a member of the Isabelle D. Martin Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving Mrs. Dozier are, a son, Edgar P.T. Dozier, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Mullins, a son-in-law, Jim Ellis of Hilton Head, 2 grandsons, Trey Dozier and James Ellis, a sister-in-law, Magnolia B. Collins of Mullins and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dozier was predeceased by a daughter, Margold Dozier Ellis, 2 sisters, Cornelia C.R. Shelley and Jean C. Brown, and 3 brothers, Neil C. Collins, Jr., Kenneth H. Collins, and Robert H. “Bobby” Collins.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 21 at Mullins First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shepherd Care Hospice, P.O. Box 392, Nichols, S.C. 29581.
Leslie Wilds Clemmons, Jr.
Marion: Leslie Wilds Clemmons, Jr., died at home on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. The funeral service was at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Marion at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, directed by Richardson Funeral Home. A celebration of his life was held Saturday, January 24, at his home, 2574 Lanneau Snipes Road in Marion, at 2:00 p.m.
Wilds was born on Feb. 17, 1949. He grew up and attended school, in Marion and Carolina Military Academy. Following his graduation from high school, he joined the US Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following the war, he established two businesses for salvaging, restoring and reuse of wood from demolished historic homes and buildings. He enjoyed living in the country where he could hunt and fish often. His many friends will miss the game and fish he shared with them. Wilds was known and will be remembered for his generosity.
Wilds was the son of the late Leslie Wilds (Bubba) Clemmons and is survived by his mother, Isabelle (Wuzzie) Clemmons of Marion. He is also survived by his wife, Becky; one son, Leslie Wilds and his wife Barbara of Conway; step-son, Cecil Bryant of Marion; step-daughters, Lisa Brewer and husband, Lee of Mullins, Ashley Futrell and husband, Stephen of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, and Leslie Wilds Clemmons IV; step-grandchildren, Jasmine and Amber Moore , Jordan Bryant, Zane Butler, and Austin Futrell; a sister, Isabelle Linder and husband Bill of Edisto Beach; and a brother James Rogers Clemmons of New York; and special little buddies, Garrett Gasque and Hunter Parks.

Thelma Wilson
Britton's Neck - Mother Thelma Richardson Wilson was born 31 December 1916 to the late Arie and Lou Ella Richardson. She completed her education at Britton's Neck High School, and worked in farming for many years. She married the late Nathan Wilson, and they were the parents of Charles and Mack Wilson of Brooklyn, NY, Eva Dell Williams of the St, James Community, Woodrow Wilson of Marion, Gene Wilson of the home, and the late Hilda Ann Wilson.
For many years, she was employed by Southern Packing Company of Mullins, and Nebo Baptist Church at Britton's Neck. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Wednesday, 14 January 2009, with the Rev. R.L. Brown, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Soul Chapel AME Church Cemetery.
As a member of Bethel, she served as a Sunday school teacher, and sang on the Gospel Choir. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Richardson of Mullins and her brother Charlie Richardson of Anderson.
Vivian Godbolt
Gresham - Evangelist Vivian Elease Godbolt, a native of Greenwood, died on 30 December 2008 at Carolinas Hospital System at Florence. She was 61. Her parents were the late Wallance and Jennie Green, and she was the sister of Wesley Greene, Annetta Greene, and Linda Price all of Durham, NC, Thomas Calvin Clarkson of Abbeville, and Melody Greene of Newark, N.J.
She lived for many years in Newark, NJ, and attended West Side High School at Newark. She was a trained health care provider, and she worked for many years at Conway Nursing Home, and Jenkins Nursing Home.
She married the Rev. Gideon Godbolt, Jr., and to this union were born Maurice, Donald, Sonya, Derrick, Gennice, and Vincent. After relocating to Gresham, she joined White Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Sunday, 4 January 2009. Her husband was the eulogist, and interment was at the church cemetery.
