Florence School District 5 Board of Trustees have determined several dates to interview potential candidates as it searches for the district’s next superintendent.
During the board’s regular meeting Monday, Dr. Paul Krohne, executive director with the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA), provided a summary of comments from three focus groups concerning the next superintendent and proposed dates for the board to meet with potential semifinalists.
The board hired the S.C. School Boards Association to conduct the superintendent search after Dr. Dale Strickland announced he would retire as head of the Johnsonville-based school district, effective June 30.
Strickland became the district’s superintendent in 1998 and has served in the position for the past 10 years.
The SCSBA will screen potential candidates and recommend to the board the top candidates to be named semifinalists. The board will meet March 5 in executive session to discuss those recommended semifinalists. During special called meetings on March 16, 17 and 18, the board will interview the semifinalists, and if three finalists are determined from those meetings, the board will interview them on April 7, 8 and 9.
Krohne said his team met with administrators and district-level staff, the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Committee, parents, and community members in order to provide a comprehensive summary of the search process and to give the local stakeholders an opportunity to comment on what characteristics, experiences or strengths they think the next superintendent should possess.
The summary of comments was only for the board to consider when interviewing candidates for the position.
