Slick roads and icy conditions didn’t keep several along The Grand Strand from heading out to different venues and watch Barack Obama’s presidential swearing in ceremony.
The Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University invited students, faculty and members of the community to witness history in the making in a live telecast.
Guests were treated to light refreshments, and a load of cookies.
Among those that attended Tuesday’s event were several youths who got out of being in school due to inclement weather.
News 13 spoke with Khadijih and Thomas Gore, two siblings who were there with much excitement hope and expectations.
“I'm kind of glad that he's become president because we really need a great president to help us out with the war in Iraq right now,” said Khadijih Gore, “so I'm glad that he's become president and I really hope that to hear his plans of what he's going to do about all this stuff, I really hope is really good decision.”
"This is kind of a moment that I'm planning on looking back on in the future and being able to record and tell my grandkids about,” added Khadijih’s aspiring brother Thomas Gore. “I think I've gotten a lot of inspiration as an artist and as an African American.”
Tuesday’s event was sponsored by the university’s Student Government Association and its chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
