Chesterfield County School District will have to institute another furlough for certified employees in order to help the district with state budget cuts.
During a regular meeting Monday, the board of trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to institute the furlough.
Ken Buck, the district’s public information officer, said the furlough day will be today.
Buck said the day was originally a teacher in-service day.
The district already instituted a furlough day Jan. 5.
The furloughs are helping the district off-set the latest state budget cut totaling more than $1 million.
The latest state budget cut is one of three this school year. Total budget cuts are about $3 million.
Chesterfield County School District Superintendent Dr. John E. Williams said in a press release that the furlough “is a necessary step as (the district) tries to make up for the loss in state funding.”
Also during the meeting, the board approved additional seating for McBee High School bleachers.
The district will add 633 seats. The project is paid for through the district’s capital fund.
