LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thanks to Sanford for doing right thing

»  Comments | Post a Comment

In a letter Jan. 1 in the Morning News, for the last six years I had explained to our congressman, senators and governor, how I was denied my unemployment benefits forever by the Employment Security Commission, even though my former employer had admitted in writing I didn’t quit my job.

Our State Representative stated to me, that my situation was out of their jurisdiction and now six years later Gov. Mark Sanford says he found a provision that allows him to take action.

Gov. Sanford stated we would not punish the unemployed for this agency’s incompetence.

Oh, really? And during the same news conference, the director of the Employment of Security Commission stated that collecting additional data would require him to retool his system, something he doesn’t have the resources to do.

So basically, what Mr. Haley is saying is that if anyone has been wrongfully denied their unemployment there will be no proof, therefore an audit of any kind from anyone will be a waste of time.

You can believe the Employment Security Commission will be found of no wrongful acts towards anyone, at any time.

What I can’t understand is if a working person needs our government to take action, it’s out of their jurisdiction. But if a company or manufacturer needs government help they get it very quick and it’s at the cost of the taxpayer. Well, you are bailing out the wrong people. If the working people don’t make enough money to buy a house or car they can’t buy either one now can they?

Making Wall Street look good doesn’t mean the economy is good.

When the bailout money is gone, everyone will be right back expecting more from our government, and they will get it. And it won’t take six years either. I do thank Gov. Mark Sanford for trying to do the right thing.
