PATRICK DAVID DeHART
Patrick David DeHart, 41, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at home after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Patrick was born May 22, 1967, in Hartsville to Warner and Martha DeHart of Hartsville. Patrick was a 1985 graduate of Hartsville High School. Attended Coker College, North Carolina School of the Arts in costume design and graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Musical Theatre, University of Cincinnati, Ohio. In the past, he worked for Spoleto in Charleston as a production assistant, worked one season with North Carolina Shakespeare Festival as a wardrobe master, Alabama Theatre, as a wardrobe master, and Disney World as a costume designer. He entertained many audiences in the Northeast, New York, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Columbia and Florida with his talent as a singer, musical theatre actor, production person, and a costume designer.
His costume design abilities were displayed at the 2007 South Carolina State Fair and at the Black Creek Arts Center, Hartsville in 2008. He had credits in several featured films as an actor and produced charity events for major charities. He had been honored for his creative abilities in costume design and musical theater abilities in the Southeast. His acting, musical and design abilities were last enjoyed by the audience in “Godspell” for the Hartsville Community Players in September of this year.
He was a loving son who is survived by his parents; one brother, Mike DeHart of Columbia; one sister, Shawn DeHart Fletcher of Hope Mills, N.C.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for Lillian H. Bodrick were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Mrs. Bodrick died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the loving daughter of Preston and Idela Graham Hunter. She received her education in the Darlington County public schools and was a graduate of Rosenwald High School with the class of 1956.
She was a member of St. James Holiness Church and was also president of nurse’s aide, a member of the Missionary Society and a Pastor’s Willing Worker.
Surviving are her husband, James Bodrick Jr. of Society Hill; three daughters, Pamela D. Patterson of Society Hill, Michelle (Ronald) Sparks of Florence and Jermeka (Gilbert) Burgess of Kingstree; one son, Christopher M. Hunter Jr. of Society Hill; four stepchildren, Lillian Bodrick, Angie Sanders, Maurice Burdick and Wayne Fitzgerald Bodrick, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Raymond Bodrick of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Magnolia (Otis) Little and Nettie (Joe) Grant, both of Hartsville; two brothers, George W. Hunter and James (Earline) Hunter of Society Hill; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Hunter and Mary Hunter of Darlington and Geraldine Hunter of Society Hill; a godson, Jeremiah Williams of Bennettsville; two very close friends and classmates, Evelyn Gunnels and Lucille Sims, both of Hartsville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Floyd Byrd were held

Mr. Byrd, 87, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Dan Evander and Victoria Lincoln Byrd. He was employed with Summit’s Cadillac and Buick Car Dealership, Summit, N.J., for more than 35 years and retired in 1989. He received certification for auto body and painter from General Motors Corp. in New Jersey. He was also a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Andrea P. McGill of Darlington; and sons, Floyd Byrd Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, John W. (Kathy) Byrd of Union, N.J.; Collins Byrd of Albany, N.Y.; James K. Byrd of Irvington, N.J.; F. “Billy” (Penny) Byrd of Newark, N.J.; a step-son, David Nicholas of Newark, N.J.; and, his siblings: Elma Byrd Davis of Columbia, James E. (Evelyn) Byrd of Florence, Harriet (Samuel) Lewis of Darlington; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

JOHN ANDERSONMARTIN
A memorial service for John Anderson Martin will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 104 E. Home Avenue, conducted by Pastor Ryan Goodroe. Cain Funeral Home of Florence is assisting the family.
Mr. Martin, 53, died Saturday, Jan. 3, at the home of his sister, Lee Martin, in Hartsville. He was born Aug. 21, 1955, in Red Bank, N.J., the son of the late George Davis Sr. and June Anderson Martin.
He later moved with his family to Towson, Md., and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in electrical engineering. He then moved to Seattle, Wash., where he worked for the Boeing Corp. for several years. Until his recent illness, Mr. Martin worked as an independent software engineer/programmer/analyst, holding positions throughout the U. S.
Surviving, in addition to his sister, are his brother, Dr. George (Joanie) Martin of Wilmington, N.C.; niece, Alyssa Martin of Charlotte, N.C.; nephews, LCDR Joshua Martin, USN, Daniel Farmer of Myrtle Beach, and Brian (Meredith) Farmer; and grand-niece, Stella, of Hilton Head. A special thanks is extended to McLeod Hospital and Hospice for their care of Mr. Martin during his illness.

Lenson was born in Jefferson on April 5, 1920. He was the youngest son of Mary Ella Kirkley Sullivan and William Duncan Sullivan. He graduated from Macedonia Angelus High School and moved to Hartsville in 1939 where he was employed by Sonoco Products Company and played catcher on the Sonoco baseball team.
He was married to Corrie Belle Middleton Sullivan in April 1943 and celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her passing in November 2003. He retired from the Hartsville Oil Mill after serving many years as plant superintendent. After retiring, he remained active managing growth projects for the Oil Mill and maintaining his interest in farming.
He was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church and served his church as treasurer, deacon, Sunday school teacher and as a member of the choir.
In 1998 his church honored him when it named him deacon emeritus.
Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Charles L. and Betty Sullivan Jr. and Danny A. “Pot” Sullivan, all of Hartsville; sister, Bernice Ford of Hartsville; grandchildren (spouses), Rosemay S. (Tim) Elsesser of Hartsville and Duncan (Rachael) Sullivan of St. Michael, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Belle, Chase and Grace Elsesser, all of Hartsville. MARGARET WATSON
Funeral services for Margaret Watson, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with burial to follow at the LDS Cemetery in Society Hill. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Watson died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in Ogden, Utah. She was born March 14, 1918, in Chesterfield County. She was the eldest child of the late John Hampton and Roxie Mae Wilkes Wallace, and she married Callis Alma Watson on Jan. 12, 1934. She was a mother and a homemaker and lived her life in Hartsville, Alexandria, Va., and Farmington, Utah. After her husband retired from Sonoco Products Company, they served two missions in Washington, D.C., and one in Atlanta, Ga., for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surviving Mrs. Watson are her children and their spouses: Charles Wallace and Diane Lee Watson of Eden, Utah; John Grant and Ramona Luker Watson of Smithfield, Utah; Pamela Watson and Gary L. Lichty of Farmington, Utah; David Wayne and Ann Shand Watson of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Mark Thomas and Deborah Heard Watson of Garden City, Utah; two brothers and spouse, George A. Wallace of Franklin, Tenn., and Frank M. and Naomi Wilkes Wallace of Lake Mary, Fla.; 45 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hallie and Ressie Cassidy of Hartsville. In addition, she has many nieces and nephews who mourn her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Callis Alma Watson; son, Callis Archie Watson; daughter, Linda Margaret Watson Lewis.
