Four Pee Dee residents indicted on counterfeit charges

Four Pee Dee residents have been indicted on counterfeit money charges, U.S. Attorney Walter Wilkins said in a press release issued Wednesday.

Phillip Lee Laney, 27, of Mount Croghan; David Lee Williams, 35, of Hartsville; Shane Lee Kearns, 33, of Jefferson; and Lance Larenta Outen, 19, of Hartsville were each charged in a three-count indictment with manufacture, distribution and possession of counterfeit money.

The maximum penalty for this crime is a $250,000 fine and 20 years in prison.

The case is being investigated by U.S. Secret Service agents. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Day II of the Florence office is prosecuting the case.
