Former Hartsville post office employee indicted for theft

A former Hartsville post office employee has been indicted on charges that she took postal funds from the office while she worked there, U.S. Attorney Walter Wilkins said in a press release issued Wednesday.

Diane T. Williams, 38, of Lamar was indicted on theft by a postal employee charges. Officials said Williams stole postal funds from the Hartsville Post Office from June 2007 to June 2008, according to the release.

The maximum penalty for this crime is a $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison.

The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Day II of the Florence officials prosecuting the case.
