The man killed in a Sunday night traffic collision in Darlington County has been identified.

Phillip Wayne Amerson, 35, of Florence was pronounced dead at the scene, Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee said in a press release issued Monday.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Syracuse Community and High Hill roads, according to S.C. Highway Patrol reports.

Troopers said the teen driver of a 1998 Ford car ran a stop sign and struck the 2000 Chevy sport utility vehicle Amerson was driving.

The other driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Amerson had been wearing his seat belt, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
