A plaque honoring Korean War veterans now has a permanent home in Myrtle Beach. That news comes with a lot of excitement for local veterans who've worked hard to remember that war and the soldiers who fought in it.
Hundreds of veterans and their relatives showed up to a special ceremony that saw the plaque find a permanent home. And Korean War veterans feel it's about time.
"It really surprised me because not much ever said about the Korean War. It's called the 'Forgotten War' and it really is. And I appreciate them taking time to do something like this,” said Korean War Veteran, George Vlasic.
"Remember that 38,000 young men gave their lives for what they believed in, and they should appreciate the war," another Korean War Veteran, Bob Aubele, said.
Rolling Thunder Vice President Bill DeVaughn says the veterans deserved for the plaque to find a place where people can reflect on those who served. And feels the Market Common will be a great location for anyone interested in observing and remembering.
"We always felt the Korean veterans never got the recognition that they deserved and we went through it as Vietnam veterans, and we just felt like we ought to show our appreciation to them," DeVaughn said.
