The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has approved the design for a veterans license plate for motorcycles.
The DMV is ready for 400 pre-applications, required before the DMV can begin the printing and manufacturing process. Unlike other special plates, no money is being made on this plate, other than the cost for the DMV to produce it. Yearly registration fees may be included, depending on where you might be in your registration cycle.
For motorcycles, veterans will need DMV form MV-37B and a copy of their DD-214 showing their honorable discharge and a $5 deposit fee in the form of a check or money order. Submit by mail to the address on the form or at the local field office.
The same plate design is available for automobiles. The deposit fee for the automobile plate is $12, plus the regular registration fee and that includes light trucks as much as 11,000 GVW, and DMV form MV- 37A, plus the DD-214, for a passenger vehicle or light truck.
If 400 applications aren’t received within a six-month period, which began Tuesday, all monies will be returned.
