Friends and Alumni Association of Palmetto High School will celebrate its annual “Black Achievement Awards Banquet” at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Mullins High School cafeteria.
Guest speakers for the occasion will be Jameek Fryson and Latasha Bethea, 1998 graduates of Mullins High School and Palmetto Scholarship recipients and honorees. The Palmetto Pioneers for this year are Gospel Recording Artist, which has been in existence for more than 30 years.
Featured will be the Dynamic Gerald Sisters, Magnificent Weeks Sisters, Sensational Bethea Sisters, The Fabulous Golden Tones and the Remarkable Hayes Boys. Also in attendance will be the legendary Carl Brunson.
Palmetto Scholars are La Ronda Paige and Steven Smith. Palmetto Athletes to be honored are Girls Basketball: Ashley Godbolt and Brittany McFarland; Boys Basketball: Andrew Crawford and Kennis Goodman; Cross Country: Mayo Christian Phillips; Football: Tim Smith and Malcolm Williamson; Softball: Renee Jordan; and Girls Tennis: April Smith.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and can be purchased from any alumni member. Call Billy Hunter (843) 464-0730 for details and if anyone is interested in donating tickets for senior citizens use. If you are a senior citizen and would like to attend, call Hunter, as well.
This annual program provides an opportunity to visit and reminisce with old classmates, teachers and friends.
