RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The North Carolina Senate has moved once again to pass legislation that seeks to limit the length of General Assembly sessions.
The Senate Rules Committee approved two bills Wednesday that would reduce or cap time lawmakers are in Raleigh.
One bill would create an extended January recess after legislative leaders are chosen in odd-numbered years. Committees would be formed and bills filed during the recess.
The other bill would cap the number of days legislators would receive their daily expense checks. Bill sponsor and Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand said the cap would prove an incentive for lawmakers to get their work done.
The bills could come to the Senate floor Thursday. The Senate has passed similar bills in the past but they've died in the House.
