Alfred Parnell Brumbles, Sr.
Mullins - Alfred Parnell Brumbles Sr., 96, widower of Emma Atkinson Brumbles, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 in Marion Nursing Center after an illness.
He was born Dec. 21, 1912 in Dillon County, a son of the late Adville and Kitty Idell Huggins Brumbles. Mr. Brumbles was a retired famer and an avid hunter.
Surviving Mr. Bumbles are five sons, A.P. Brumbles Jr. of Mullins, B. Frank Brumbles of Mullins, Ray Stovall Brumbles of Mullins, Andy L. Brumbles of Johnston and J. Michael Brumbles of Mullins; four daughters, Katherine B. Poston of Marion, Kitty B. Lane of Columbia, JoAnne B. Jackson of Dillon and Susie B. Owens of Kingstree; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were on Feb. 7 at Watson Cemetery in the Zion Community and were directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Amelia Lester
Marion - Amelia Emanuel Lester was born March 5, 1914 in Marion to the late Berkeley and Tiller Hudson Emanuel. Affectionately called "Doll," she grew up in the Springville community and was a lifelong member of Springville United Methodist Church, where her funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009.
The Rev. Shawn V. Bell, pastor, officiated, and interment was at the church cemetery. As a member of Springville, she served as Assistant Treasurer of the Sunday School, Communion Steward, and as Mother of the Church.
She was the widow of Willie Lester and they were the parents of Eliza Stevenson and Betty McLeod both of Marion and the late Albert Lester, Addie Lester Hughes and Willie Mae Lester Bolden.
Malissa Davis
Marion - Malissa Denise Buey Davis, 52, died on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009. She was born in Philadelphia to Geneva B. and the late Joe T. Graham.
At the time of her death, she was a student at Coker College. She was a 1975 graduate of Marion High School and a 1977 graduate of Columbia Commercial College. She was employed by Sara Lee Hosiery for 27 years.
Her funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 in Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Henry McGill Jr. pastor, officiating. Interment was at Franklin Cemetery in the St. Mary Community.
She is survived by her mother; her husband, Calvin; her children, Juba Buey, Natasha Davis and Lashawna Davis; her brother Mark Cain; and a special friend in Larry Lamar.
Mary Thelma T. Collins
Mullins - Mary Thelma Collins, 66, widow of Don L. Collins, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness.
She was born on June 8, 1942 in Marion County, a daughter of the late N.J. and Margaret Walker Thomas. Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs Collins are her children, Timmy (Angie) Collins of Marion, Robbin (Robert) Bullock of Brownsville, Ky., Wayne (Kim) Collins of Mullins, Bryan (Trinity) Collins of Mullins and Ryan (Dawn) Collins of Aynor; 13 grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Libby Jordan of Tabor City, N.C., Jean (Ralph) Best of Fork, Jessie (Gordon) Collins of Nichols, Joe Thomas of Mullins, Andy (Marie) of Effingham and Paul (Debbie) Thomas of Marion, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Collins was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Marie Bullock.
Services were on Feb. 11 at Little Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Brown and the Rev. Mike Watkins officiating. Burial followed in Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
