MYRTLE BEACH - A man died Wednesday afternoon following an apparent accident at a recycling center in Myrtle Beach.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamera Willard identified the victim at 39-year-old Raul Chavez. Willard said Chavez was from Mexico, but was staying in Galivants Ferry.

According to Capt. David Knipes, the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when the man was emptying a dump truck at Lee Recycling off Seaboard Street. The back gate of the truck swung open and struck him.

He was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where Willard said doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.

Willard says she is treating the man's death as an accident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
