HARTSVILLE – A pedestrian died Wednesday night when she was struck by a car on SC 102 about a mile north of Hartsville.

A 2002 Ford van driven by Cockson McCain, 63, Hartsville, struck the 47-year-old pedestrian and a bicyclist, David Hoave, 46, of Hartsville, according to Cpl. Paul Brouthers, South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 8 p.m.

All three were west-bound on SC 102 – the pedestrian was “illegally in the roadway” and the cyclist “had no reflective gear or clothing on while riding his bicycle,” Brouthers said.

McCain was not charged, Brouthers said.

The crash remains under investigation, Brouthers said.
