Deputies investigate Marion County church thefts

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Deputies are investigating the theft of three central heating and air conditioning units from two Marion County churches during the weekend, according to a press release from Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson.

One unit taken from Blessed Hope Baptist Church is valued at $4,000, while two units taken from Grace Community Church are valued together at $12,000. The wires were cut and drag marks were found at the scenes, where investigators think the thieves loaded the units onto a truck or trailer sometime between Saturday and Sunday, Richardson said.

Two 4-wheel all-terrain vehicles also were stolen during the weekend: a 2006 green Honda FourTrax Recon stolen from Heatherwood Road in Marion and a 1999 green Kawasaki Prairie 300 stolen from a residence on U.S. 378 in Gresham.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 423-8216 or (843) 423-8217 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.
