As I sit in front of my television and watch all the Christmas movies that I have watched since childhood I wonder what has happened to all the Christmas miracles. I long for the times when Christmas was a time for joy and caring.
Those days are gone forever and all you have to do is watch the news. Children are killing children and seniors are killing seniors. You can not drive down the road without wondering if you will meet someone only to be carjacked. You are in your on home and someone breaks in, where you think you are safe, then robs and beats you.
I always believed in miracles but how can I continue to believe with thousands and thousands of people out of work and out of love. I am one of those people and I tend to lose faith in my belief. I helped raise, with the help and support of my wife, four children who I am very proud of.
We took children into our home who were placed with us by the Department of Social Services. We adopted four of these special needs children that were born addicted to crack and other drugs at birth. I now have eight children and eight grandchildren. I was laid off one week before Thanksgiving Day. Even though I have unemployment money it is not enough. If I pay rent I lose my auto and have no way to look for a job.
If I pay my car payment I lose my apartment. My wife and I divorced this year, and this is the first time in 37 years I can not give my kids and grandchildren anything for Christmas. Everyone always tells me you have done so much for the kids you have taken into your home you will have a special place in heaven for what you have done. I would trade that place in heaven just to be able to spend one more Christmas giving the kids the things that bring a big smile to their face.
If you know someone like me this Christmas, please let them know that they are somebody and they count in this world of crime, hate and war, just let them know you care. I know there is love out in the world it has just been hidden by greed and evil. Where are the miracles? They are in you!
