A local Grinch may have stolen toys from a holiday fundraiser, but several people on the Grand Strand came together to brighten the holidays for some less fortunate children.
Members of the ABATE motorcycle club, say they stored dozens of bags of toys and several bikes, all donated and purchased for children in Horry County this Christmas, in the storage room over the past year, but someone stole all of it.
Thanks to a last minute toy run this rally this morning, the day the toys were scheduled to be donated, there was a happier ending to what could have been a holiday nightmare.
Many people from ABATE and throughout the community donated toys.
Thomas McCormick replaced some of the stolen toys with two transformer robot action figures he donated.
The big surprise gift came from the Food and Beverage Family of Friends, an organization in North Myrtle Beach.
Its leaders donated $5,000 to buy toys for the children
“It says a lot about the Food and Beverage Family of Friends. We've been raising money for eight years. Their hearts are in the right place. We felt like we needed to do something for kids,” said Gary Bass, President of the Food and Beverage Family of Friends.
The donation was appreciated. In the end, no child was left without a toy at ABATE's fundraiser.
