Dear Editor,
My husband and I attended this year’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Marion, Sunday night, as we have for many years.
We were especially pleased this year! It seemed to have taken on a new life and seemed more upbeat and more “hip.”
Now mind you we have been delighted with this event all these past years. It has always been a blessing and an enjoyable treat we have looked forward to each year. We heard Sunday night that Mrs. Bobby Gerald was the creator and driving source behind it all these years. Thank you Mrs. Gerald!
I am always proud to witness this small moment in time when many people gather together on Main Street.
For those that could not attend this year, or chose not to, you missed a great event. The music was new and different, happy music you wanted to dance to. Speaking of dancing, there were beautiful dancers there in long red dresses, entertaining and very well practiced.
The children were sweet and adorable as always. There was a dramatization of the birth of Jesus and the shepherds and wise men that came to see him, while a choir sang the whole time.
Very talented soloists and choir singers sang the songs alike. They sang to the music produced by an excellent live band.
There was a huge screen set up so more people could actually see what was happening and also doubled to display the words to songs. Nice going guys.
The entire service was well planned, beautifully executed, heartwarming and very entertaining, beginning to end. I heard Cleve Dorsey was the organizer and driving force behind this year’s event. Well-done sir. I hope you will consider doing this again next year so those that missed it can get another chance.
It was new! It was fresh! It was upbeat and hip! And most importantly, it was still a blessed event, worshiping and celebrating the birth of Jesus!
