Second Lee County teacher under investigation

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A second Lee County teacher is being investigated after police received reports she slapped a student and told her to sit down, Bishopville Police Chief John Ewing said.

It happened at Dennis Intermediate School in Bishopville and was reported to police this week after another teacher misconduct issue came to light, Ewing said.

Police are in the beginning stages of the investigation and no arrests have been made. It is unclear if the teacher is still employed at the school.

The (Sumter) Item reported Wednesday police were investigating allegations against Sarah McCutchen, 48, a kindergarten teacher at Bishopville Primary School. She no longer works at the school or in the district.

McCutchen is accused of rubbing hand sanitizer in students’ faces and their mouths in October and November. She is also alleged to have struck several 5- and 6-year-old students on the hand with a stick, struck them on the bottom and slapped them in the face. She has also been accused of stepping on students’ hands. A teacher aide came forward with information that supports the allegations, according to a police report.
