Richard Cook, a member of the Florence School District 3 board of trustees, was elected vice president of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual business meeting.
The annual business meeting was held Dec. 5, during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference. It included voting delegates from most of the state’s 85 school boards.
In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted resolutions to guide the association during the 2010 legislative session.
Cook has served on the Florence School District 3 board for more than 15 years, serving as chairman from 2005 to 2007 and as a member of various board committees.
Since his election to the association's board of directors in 2005, Cook has served as a region director and secretary and on various board committees. In addition, he is a board member of the association’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance Trust.
Cook manages the Lake City operations for SCE&G, where he has worked for the past 41 years. He is a past president of the Greater Lake City Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Lake City Rotary Club. He is a member of the Board of Directors at Northside Baptist Church.
He and his wife Cheryl have two sons, Scott and Jason.
