Hospital welcomes new doctors
The newest members of the Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center team at the December Business After Hours sponsored by the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce.

The new members include Johnna Shirley (Marketing and Community Relations), Dr. David Wiley (Orthopaedist), Dr. Bill Epps (Cardiologist), Dr. William Powell (Family Practice), Dr. Jeffrey Hatchell (Family Practice), Dr. Lisa Mancuso (Pain Mgt.), Dr. Ramandeep Sidhu (Hospitalist), Dr. Dwayne Jacobus (Podiatrist), Lance Jones (CEO).

Governor’s school scores in robotics competition
The Governor's School for Science and Mathematics' Awesome Possums robotics team is heading to a national championship competition in Atlanta in April after taking the top prize Dec. 5 at the fifth annual FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition at S.C. State University.

The students, Nick Bishop of Easley, Mac Rogers of Bennettsville, David Sung of Columbia and Dylan Pruitt of Summerville, teamed with a group from Varnville's Wade Hampton High to win the trophy.

Another GSSM participating team, the North Central Positronics, was able to secure a top ten finish in the competition.

The FIRST Championship at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta is the final and largest event of the organization's robotics competition series.

A number of GSSM robotics team alumni have gone on to pursue engineering degrees and opportunities at a number of prestigious institutions including Vanderbilt University, North Carolina State, NASA Robotics Academy and Air Force ROTC.

Coastal Carolina University Graduates
A total of 345 students participated in Coastal Carolina University's commencement ceremony on Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Locally, Aubree Ross of Darlington, Harold Collins of Hartsville, Emily Brewer of Hartsville, Meredith Sansbury of Hartsville, Bernard Moore of Hartsville and Alvin Usher of Pageland.

Christmas in April
Homeowner applications for Christmas in April 2010 will be available starting Jan. 6 and must be returned by Feb. 16. Applications may be picked up from and returned to Heritage Community Bank in Hartsville. The Christmas in April 2010 workday is scheduled for April 17.
