If you grew up in places where it was cold enough to ice skate outdoors in the wintertime, The Market Common in Myrtle Beach may have a treat for you.
Starting Saturday, and until January 3, there is an artificial ice rink at Valor Park adjacent to the Market Common. It's made up of a series of white plastic panels, laid out like a basketball court is assembled.
"Basically, they (plastic tiles) snap in with each other, just like a big puzzle," said David Tibbetts, of the Masscachusetts-based artificialiceevents.com, which set up the rink. "When you spray the enhancer (liquid) on top of it, it definitely creates more glide and speed."
Skaters can rent--or bring their own--ice skates, and enjoy the rink.
"It definitely puts you a little more in the Christmas spirit," said Abby Tolson, who gave the skating a try on Friday morning. "It's harder to turn (than on real ice), but it's still a lot of fun," she said.
The rink will be open from 10:00 until 6:00 p.m. every day, starting Saturday, December 20, until January 3.
