COLUMBIA -- A Myrtle Beach woman was sentenced Thursday for selling illegally imported switchblade knives.
According to a press release, Patricia Remmane, age 57, was sentenced in federal court in Florence for conspiracy to sell switchblade knives in interstate commerce, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence sentenced Remmane to 6 months imprisonment.
Evidence presented at the guilty plea hearing established that Remmane and her husband, Mustapha conspired to import switchblade knives from Taiwan, China, and other countries then sell the switchblade knives to individuals and other businesses in the United States.
The Remmanes were doing business as MPR Imports, Inc., in the Myrtle Beach area from February 2000 until February 2005 and sold thousands of switchblade knives which they illegally imported.
Mustapha Remmane was also indicted but is currently a fugitive.
The case was investigated by agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II of the United States Attorney’s Office handled the case.
