» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

Dillon County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon.

Jeffrey Jones, 26, was taken to an area hospital about 3 p.m. where he died several hours later, Capt. Cliff Arnette said.

Arnette said investigators are trying to determine if the shooting happened in Dillon County or Robeson County, N.C.

Jones had family ties to Dillon and Sellers, but investigators don’t know where he lived.

“We are working with the Dillon police on this case to come to some type of resolution,” Arnette said.

An autopsy performed Thursday morning is expected to reveal more details about the cause and manner of Jones’ death.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 774-1432 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.

Count on more details from the Morning News, News13 and scnow.com as they become available.
